Slovakia Declines Trump's "Board of Peace" Proposal
The Slovak government emphasized its commitment to peace efforts that align with established global frameworks while raising concerns about potential conflicts with foundational international law.
"Slovakia will support all peace initiatives that have the potential to contribute to stability and are not in conflict with the rules that, in line with the United Nations (UN) Charter of 1945, have helped to protect us from a Third World War following the horrors of the first two," the Slovak government said.
Officials highlighted the need for rigorous evaluation of any new international obligations, specifically citing Article 103 of the UN Charter. This provision mandates that Slovakia must prioritize commitments under the UN Charter whenever they conflict with obligations from other international bodies—including Trump's proposed board.
The initiative's structure has raised eyebrows internationally. Trump would assume the inaugural chairmanship with lifetime tenure under current proposals, while permanent members would face a steep $1 billion entry fee to finance board operations, according to Trump's public statements.
